Privacy Policy & SMS Terms

This Privacy Policy explains how Gurdwara Akaljot, Inc. (d/b/a Gurdwara Akaljot Sahib) — “we,” “us,” or “the Gurdwara” — handles information collected through our in-person donation kiosk, our Gurdwara office, and our administrative application. We are committed to protecting the privacy of our sangat and donors.
Information we collect
- Name — to record your donation and your giving history.
- Phone number (optional) — to send you a receipt by text message and for our records. Providing your phone number and agreeing to texts is never required in order to donate.
- Email address (optional) — to send you a receipt or a year-end giving statement.
- Donation details — the amount, date, and the month(s) your donation covers.
We do not collect or store your payment card details. Card payments are processed securely by Square using a physical card reader; the card information never reaches or is stored by our app.
How we use your information
- To record and acknowledge your donation.
- To send you a receipt by SMS and/or email.
- To maintain the Gurdwara's donation records and issue annual giving statements.
We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell or rent it to anyone.
Text messages (SMS)
Signing up for text messages is completely optional. You are never required to agree to receive text messages in order to make a donation, to become a member, or to receive any service from Gurdwara Akaljot Sahib. If you decline, your donation is processed exactly the same way and you can still receive a printed or emailed receipt.
We collect consent verbally, in person, at our donation kiosk or at the Gurdwara office. A sevadar reads the following script aloud and records your answer. Consent is only recorded if you say yes:
We do not use web forms, purchased lists, or third-party sources to sign anyone up for text messages, and we never share phone numbers with third parties for their own marketing.
We send only two kinds of text messages, and no marketing or promotional content:
- Donation receipts — a confirmation of a donation you made.
- Monthly commitment reminders — a reminder if a monthly donation you committed to is still pending.
Message frequency varies (typically no more than a few messages per month). Message and data rates may apply. You can opt out at any time by replying STOP to any message; reply HELP for help, or contact us at the phone number or email below. Opting out of texts does not affect your donation, your membership, or your donation records.
Sample receipt message: “Gurdwara Akaljot Sahib: Thank you for your donation of $100.00. Receipt #4592. View receipt: https://gurdwaraakaljotsahib.web.app/invoice?id=abc123 — Reply STOP to unsubscribe.”
How your information is stored and shared
Your information is stored securely using Google Firebase. We share information only with service providers that help us operate, and only as needed:
- Square — to process card payments.
- Our SMS provider — to deliver your text-message receipt.
- Google Firebase — to securely store donation records.
How long we keep it
We retain donation records for as long as needed for the Gurdwara's accounting, religious, and tax reporting purposes, in line with applicable law.
Your choices
You may ask us to access, correct, or delete your personal information, or to stop sending you receipts. Contact us using the details below and we will help.
Children's privacy
The kiosk is intended for adult donors and is not directed at children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date above shows when it last changed.
