Daswandh & Donations

Your giving keeps the Gurdwara Sahib open, the langar served, and the Sangat together.

What is daswandh?

Daswandh means “one tenth”. It is the Sikh practice of setting aside a tenth of what you earn for the Guru and for those in need — giving not as charity from above, but as a share returned from what the Guru has already given. Encouraged from the earliest days of Sikhi and organised during the time of Guru Arjan Dev Ji, it sits alongside vand chhakna, sharing with others, as a daily discipline rather than an occasional gift.

At Gurdwara Akaljot, every rupee and dollar given by the Sangat goes back into the Gurdwara Sahib and the community it serves. No contribution is too small, and no one is ever asked to give in order to take part in any program or to receive langar.
