About the Gurdwara
Home of the Sangat in Garland
Gurdwara Akaljot is a Sikh place of worship serving families across the Dallas–Fort Worth area. The Gurdwara Sahib is open every day for prayer and reflection in the presence of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
Our doors are open to everyone, regardless of faith, background or status. Come for kirtan, stay for langar, and become part of the community.

First Visit
Visiting the Gurdwara
Visitors of every faith are welcome. Please dress modestly and comfortably so you can sit on the carpeted floor. Here is what to expect.

Before you enter
- Remove your shoes and place them in the shoe racks on either side.
- Wash your hands — basins are in the shoe rack area.
- Cover your head. Scarves are available if you don’t have one.

In the Darbar Sahib
- Bow before Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, the Sikh holy scripture.
- Everyone sits together on the carpet as a sign of equality. Chairs are available if needed.
- Avoid turning your back to, or pointing your feet toward, the Guru Granth Sahib.

The prayer service
- Raagis and the Sangat sing hymns from the Guru Granth Sahib.
- Anand Sahib is recited, then everyone stands for Ardas.
- After Ardas, all sit for the Hukamnama — the daily hymn.

Langar hall
- Keep your head covered in the langar hall.
- Langar is served on Friday evening and Sunday.
- Sit on the carpet rows and sevadars will serve you a vegetarian meal.

New to the Gurdwara? Here are answers to the questions we hear most.
Can anyone visit Gurdwara Akaljot?
Yes. Everyone is welcome, regardless of faith, background or status. The Gurdwara is open every day from 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM.
What should I wear, and do I need to cover my head?
Dress modestly and comfortably so you can sit on the carpeted floor. Everyone keeps their head covered inside; scarves are available if you don’t have one. Shoes are removed at the entrance, and wash basins are in the shoe rack area.
What are the prayer and program timings?
Morning Nitnem is at 5:30 AM, Rehras Sahib at 6:00 PM and Sukh Asan at 8:00 PM every day. The Friday program (kirtan and langar) runs 6:00–8:00 PM, and the Sunday Diwan runs 10:00 AM–1:30 PM.
Is langar free, and when is it served?
Yes. Langar is a free vegetarian meal served to everyone on Friday evening and on Sunday. Sit on the carpet rows and sevadars will serve you.

Are there Punjabi and Gurbani classes for children?
Yes. Weekly kids’ classes teach Gurbani, Punjabi and Sikh history in small age groups (5–8, 9–12 and 13–15). Call (945) 236-0109 to enroll.

Yes. Diwans, kirtan and special programs are streamed live on the Gurdwara’s YouTube channel.
